Leveraging Relevance and Social Media to Get Noticed

by Darrell Leinwand

With the widespread popularity of the semantic web and the concept of connecting content from various domains together seamlessly (Web 2.0), numerous free tools and services such as RSS Feeds, API’s, Twitter, Digg, etc. have been developed to help you get your content noticed.  Additionally, search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and the much buzzed about Bing from Microsoft have become the obvious way for users to find the content they are looking for.  The question is how do you as the publisher connect to the reader who habitually uses Google to find what they are looking for when you are competing with Fortune 500 firms who may have similar content and huge SEO and SEM budgets?

One approach is to create relevant content that your audience is looking for and leverage social media to connect your content to other relevant content.  This approach shifts the focus from Keyword Matching using SEO/SEM over to Social Media and Relevance Matching.  Relevant Content Matching differs from Keyword Matching because it has the ability to  take into account the various themes, writing styles, topics, and ideas of a document.  This is an important point because a Keyword Search does a wonderful job of helping the end user find that website, blog article, or document that they were initially looking for but what happens next? What if the user wants to expand their knowledge on a specific subject and look at other similar websites, blog articles, or documents? This is where Keyword Search falls short and where Full Content Matching starts to shine.

The solution – you guessed it – the Arkayne Plugin! You can use the Arkayne Plugin to seamlessly connect all of your content to other relevant content created by partner publishers.  No more keyword tagging, no more wasting your time link building.  Not only does the Arkayne Plugin connect your content but it also connects you to other websites which opens you to new focused traffic.  Simply install the Arkayne Plugin, invite your trusted sources to install the Arkayne Plugin, click ‘follow’ on your trusted source’s profile, sit back, relax, and continue doing what you do best, creating great content!

In addition to the Arkayne Plugin there are a handful of other Tools and resources you can use to get your content noticed:

Social Bookmarking Systems

In a social bookmarking system such as Mixx, Digg, Propeller, Tipd and Delicious, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine. – wikipedia.com

RSS Feeds

Feedburner is an RSS Feeder. RSS works by having the website author maintain a list of notifications on their website in a standard way. This list of notifications is called an “RSS Feed“. People who are interested in finding out the latest headlines or changes can check this list. Special computer programs called “RSS aggregators” have been developed that automatically access the RSS feeds of websites you care about on your behalf and organize the results for you. – softwaregarden.com

Social Networking

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others’ updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to other users – known as followers – who have subscribed to them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. – wikianswers.com

Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. – facebook.com

LinkedIn is an interconnected network of experienced professionals from around the world, representing 170 industries and 200 countries. You can find, be introduced to, and collaborate with qualified professionals that you need to work with to accomplish your goals. – linkedin.com
