With the decline in interest of traditional print and broadcast media, blog readership has definitely increased among the more mainstream crowd. With this rise in readership came a rise in sources, and as of January 2009, Technorati has indexed over 130 million blogs online [1]. Because this market is so flooded, people are always asking “what can I do to increase traffic to my site?” Well there are a lot of things you can do to drive more traffic to your site, but at the end of the day if you are trying to keep readers around, content is king. Writing good blog posts can be hard, especially when you are new, but it’s not rocket science. Like anything you have ever written for school, there are certain basic elements that you should keep in mind when writing good posts. The first thing you will need is an idea, what are you going to write about? Once you have that figured out, think about what you want your reader to take away from your post. People read blog posts in order to learn more about something, so before you write it is always good to think about what you want your reader to take away. For example, I decided I wanted to write about blogging, and I want people to have some ideas on how to write better posts after reading. Below are five key points any do it yourselfer can use to start writing better blog posts today.

Conclusions on blog posts are usually pretty short. You want to sum up your main point, and maybe make a final reflection on why you chose to write this particular post.
Call To Action
This is the second most important thing that many bloggers miss. At the end of your post, you should always try and get your readers to keep thinking about your post, or have a definite answer to what your post told them. For example if I am writing a review of a product, my call to action might be to tell readers that you recommend they buy it.
Everyone has their own style, these are some basic elements that should be in every blog post. Staying focused on your ideas is the achilles heel for many blogs, but if you follow these five points, you will be writing better content in no time.
